Default engine problem

I own a 2005 crossfire convertible. After 35K miles, I had an engine knock noise problem...and the dealership said they had to replace the entire short block. Is this a fluke, is this common, should I be concerned about this being a reoccuring problem?

this is not common have heard a few with that problem the car is made on a Mercedes slk platform with very few problems
