Check Engine Light

RE: Check Engine Light
Hello,
To my surprise, about 1 week after I replaced the faulty hoses the MIL went out on its own. However, the code is still resident on the dash display and if I run Autotap it says that I fail an emmissions test becasue of that code. Is this a time based thing that won't clear until the car has been driven a number of cycles? It just seems weird that the MIL is off but the code is still lurking out there.
BTW, does a fault code effect gas mileage? To me, it seems that the mileage islow by 2-3 MPG (21 vice 24).

RE: Check Engine Light
the code will stay is the system for 40 good drive cycles the light is off becasue it saw 3 good cycles.
U will pass emmissions because the light is off. and no it wont affect gas mileage unless u erased all thecar data with a battery disconnect or a scan tool then tha car will haft to learn how u drive again.
