Default My Project

The 01 Chrysler Intrepid was entry level model that had no options other than power windows and came with a 2.7 that was blowing oil out the last cylinder on the passenger side very badly and an ugly timing chain growl on startup. The 2002 300m is the donor car, I will be fixing up the 2001 Intrepid. 300m was involved in a front end collision, when underneith a Ford Expedition, it lost that fight. I'm a mechanic, not a body man.

I added the 3.5 high output and it's transmission from a 300m. Also transferred HVAC system, Dash, steering column, Heated leather memory seats, front door panels, carpet, infinity sound system, side view mirrors, anti-lock brake system, upgraded airbag system which will include side airbags in the seats, 300m wheels (PCM is programed for that size anyway and they look better), and every inch of wiring harness on the 300m is installed in the Intrepid because of electronic differences. This also meant rewiring all four doors and the even the trunk lid. Also transferred all the door locks and truck lock so I only need one key. Everything, including the wiring harnesses bolts into the same place, so that works out well. I even had to swap fuel tanks because there were emission system differences. There were slight differences that meant attaching the bulb sockets at the third brake light (intrepid has two, 300m only one) and the front turn signals need the pigtails swapped and extended (intrepid signals are in headlights, 300m signals are in front bumper cover).

Progress so far, I now have a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid sporting everything from a 300m. It's now on the road. Drives great. The only issue with the entire car is the antilock brake system isn't working. I have a service code for Right Front Sensor, probably just a bad sensor. There is also a code for failure of the hydraulic power unit. That lives in the left front corner of the car, where the 300m's wreck occurred. I believe it has some damage due to the impact. I have diagnosed that yet, as you know, when the abs system fails you operate with normal brakes, which is what the Intrepid was originally built with anyway. I fix it soon and the car will be perfect. I might change the headliner because the 300m liner has the cool information center and lighted visors. Haven't done it yet, but why stop now after all the other changes?

A fun little project. It was very involved, but I had a good time. Currently there is a 300m carcass in my driveway on jackstands, only things good on it is are sunroof assembly, four doors with windows and regulators, a trunk lid, and the rear bumber cover. Otherwise it's a skeleton. I hate to send good parts to the scrapper so ive put them on craigslist and no one needs them. Would you guys remove the parts and save them or just junk them? The carcass has got to go before the neighbors get upset. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Thanks for reading, I'd love to read your thoughts and comments about this project.

Default More progress

I decided to install the overhead information center from the 300m to the intrepid. I had to cut a big hole in the headliner and rewire the headliner using the 300m roof harness. I would have just transferred the headliner as a whole, but the sunroof hole is in the wrong place because Intrepid has an aftermarket sunroof, it's two inches back from the position of the factory unit in the 300m. Now the side mirrors lower when in reverse, dimming mirrors work, tire pressure system works (only one good sensor, one broke, two missing)

I'm really liking the outcome of my car project. A coworker said it looks like a different car inside, I said that's exactly correct, Intrepid on the outside, but 300m everywhere else.

Cheers,
007.

when you swapped the seats did you by any chance know what each wire meant? im trying to take some out of my local pick and pull from a 300m and cant figure out what wires will give the seat power to slide forward to unbolt the rear as the car is wreaked and has no battery so i have to hook a battery up to the harness under the seat. Thank you in advance

I transferred every inch of wire from the 300m (Including doors, trunk lid, and headliner) so all Plugs and harnesses mated perfectly. I believe if you find the heavy gauge black & red wires that is all you'll need to power the seat motors. I have the complete factory manuals on CD, I'm sure I have the wiring diagrams if you need more info, just let me know.

I'll check the diagrams tonight and get back with you, It won't be until late evening, like 10pm. Working full time and going to college is rough, and I don't bounce back as fast as I used to. You'll love the heated seats with winter coming and all. I never thought they were anything to write home about, but I got hooked last winter when I got my "Intrepid-M" (as my buddy calls it) on the road. I'm surprised they heaters don't share the same heavy feeds, but I didn't have to investigate anything due to how I replaced everything.

I do enjoy having the car Chrysler never built. A Chrysler Intrepid (almost got in an argument at the DMV & Insurance office - It's from Canada dammit, I know it's Dodge around here, but not up there!) with 300m interior. Plain Jane on the outside, styling on inside!

I have pics of all of it if anyone wants to see.

Especially interesting to see how to get rid of an entire car with a $29 reciprocating saw from Harbor Freight.

Get back to you soon,
007.

My desktop at home has had some sort of stroke or something. It's lost the ability to go online. I've tried many things, installed new ethernet board, renamed this address or that one, got a new modem from my provider, and even borrowed a known good router, but it will not work. I am going try to get the wiring diagram you need again tonight, I did find it, doesn't look difficult to wire at all. Maybe I can save it to a cd and then go to another computer. If not, I may print them and have to fax. I'll get it done one way or another.

As for pictures of the project, luckily they are also on my work computer. Go to my profile to see what I've loaded so far, the fun ones are coming a bit later. How to dispose of an unwanted car............................
