Dodge Durango/Chrysler Aspen, two mode hybrid system

Heard that Chrysler Group will soon announce the Dodge Durango, two mode hybrid system. The system will improve highway gas mileage by 25%. Will also run in full hybrid mode during city driving.

Sounds good, especially today, since gas prices are bad...

You heard correct sir.

The 2009 Dodge Durango HEMI Hybrid will be available this fall anddoes indeedutilizethe mosttechnologicallyadvanced two-mode hybrid powertrain. Thismarks Dodge's first efforts at providing fuel efficient vehicle technology.

The gas mileage is also as you stated, 40% greater fuel efficiency in the city and 25% overall. The '09 Durango HEMI Hybrid will tout and estimated 385 horsepower and an impressive towing capability at 6,000 lbs. Plus you'll get seating for 8 and best-in-class* cargo capacity behind the 2nd row.

The hybrid technology in this case is designed specifically to provide better fuel economy without sacrificing "real" SUV capability, and it will likely serve as a template for future hybrid powertrain design in the automotive industry.

If you are interested in checking it out for yourself, the vehicle is now featured on the main Dodge.com site and on the Red Letter Dodge blog. As always, I will be around to answer any questions.

Thanks,

Will

If you don't mind my asking, whatdo you mean by tranny hybrid?

Yes indeed, this is the same technology developed jointly by Chrysler, Diamler, BMW, and GM.

40% greater fuel efficiency in the city and 25% overall it' s a pretty good performance. Also, the fact that it will provide better fuel economy without sacrificing "real" SUV capability it' s another good news. But what can you tell me about the future? Can you give me names and numbers or years relating to the future hybrids?

Unfortunately no, the only future vehicle slated tobe available withthe 2 mode hybridsystem for sure is the 2010 Ram. It's to my understanding that consideration of this specific hybridtechnology in other models has already begun, but is dependant on market conditions and vehicle demand.
