Default It's all in the battery

I just paid a locksmith $65 to learn a lesson. The keys were locked in the trunk of my daughters 2002 Sebring Convertible. There was no way into the trunk, as you need the ignition key in order for the trunk button to work.

The locksmith simply unhooked the position and negative leads to the battery. He says it resets the system. After 30 seconds, he simply pushed the trunk button and it opened. No key needed.

I hope this helps someone out there. I'm sure it would work on other models.

For a couple of bucks you can have a spare key made. Keep it handy. The security key is a bit more. The owners manual describes how to program it.

Default How to get into the trunk without a key on late models Sebring

A few years ago we were on vacation in Arizona, in the back country around Sedona. It was a rental, probably either a 2007 or 2008 Sebring convertible, and the rental company only gave us one key.

After a rather long hike, I was tired and accidentally locked the keys in the trunk. No way to open it, no extra key, out in the back country, Sunday so could not call a locksmith.

I was able to get the key and pop open the trunk by going through the convertible well liner. I don't remember exactly but I think I just got into the back seat and unsnapped the well cover; and crawled (whiggled actually) part way though until I could reach my jacket and get the key and FOB.

It's tight and difficult, but we had no choice. It can be done if you have no other means.

I just had to do this on a 2003 Sebring convertible , you need to remove the the interior light fuse...Should be a 10 amp....leave out for about 10 secs. Than put it back in....then hit your trunk button...Just worked for me half hour ago...hope it helps

My wife has the exact same model and was in the exact same situation just today. I found your post and was able to zip over and rescue her and the kids at the grocery store! Thank you!

You are the best! Locked the keys in the trunk last night, I knew I had too much to drink to figure it out then. I woke up this morning super early to handle it and came across your post, worked like a charm! Thank you!
