Default 05 Alternator 2.7

Hi all. I'm attempting to replace the alternator, which I thought would be extremely easy. I researched on the Internet first, and found too many conflicting steps.
So yesterday, removed the tire and splash shield in an attempt to find the tensioner. Found what looked like the tensioner with a 3/8 drive, but it wouldn't budge in either direction.
So back at the engine, removed all 3 bolts/connectors on the alternator. I was also able to take the belt off upon complete dismount. It wouldn't come out because it didn't fit through the space. Disconnected the a connector below, so harness could be moved out of the way. Also had to remove oil dipstick tube and cut ties for the wiring harness, just to get clearance.
Now attempting to install. Is there a trick??? Is there a tensioner??? My son and I were initially able to get the upper right bolt in. He just came in saying he got the upper left. Now I have to figure out how to do the lower bolt and apply correct belt tension.

Did we do this backwards?

To loosen the tensioner you must loosen both the pivot bolt and the locking bolt. Then it should swing. Get the tension in the belt by inserting a 1/2 inch drive breaker in the square hole provided and holding the tension while you tighten the locking bolt and pivot bolt.
