Default 05 lost oil

Wife hit large chunk of ice. Must have cracked oil pan or something. Oil drained out while she drove for 10 min. She kept going untill the car shut down. Will these cars normally shut down due to low oil?? She was driving 60km/h in a snow storm. Would it shut down before the engine seized? No one tried cranking it after it died, just called the hook.

I don't know if temp rose. She said car sounded fine and just shut down and coasted to side of road. Hook driver said oil was still coming out of it when he picked it up. But did not read on dip stick.

Well Moe, this is where paying big dollars to insurance companies should work in your favor. But hold on here comes the ride. So they will cover the damage caused by the object, but since wife did not notice any damage in the black of night in the snow storm she continued on her way untill car died, they are sugesting any damage that resulted because of no oil will be my bill. GREAT. They will buy me a new oil pan (if that is where the oil came out) and I will buy the rest of the engine.

WOW, is $5500 a true idea of what these 2.7 engines are worth?? I could not believe it. Insurance is still debating if they will cover the damage or not. It may be a write off if the engine is gone.
