'05 Sebring Sdn, noise when turning
I have a 2005 Sebring 4dr SDN. 2.4, 43k miles. 70k kms
About a month ago the car developed a dry squeaking noise when turning the steering. Most noticeable during parking maneuvers. To me the noise sounds exactly like two pieces of styrofoam being rubbed together. I thought it might be dry bushings but the car only has just over 43K. The mech could not duplicate the noise while the car was on the hoist with him turning the wheels manually. He then put the car on another hoist where the cars wheels were as they were on the ground, I was in the car and with the engine running I turned the steering back and forth and was able to get the noise. He was unable to find exactly where the noise was coming from and he ended up spraying some lubrication around the upper and lower ball joints and told me to drive the car for a few days to see if the lubrication would work itself in.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the noise might be coming from? Some pivot point is dry and I would like to know if there are any other areas I might look? Thanks for any help rendered. Jim.
