Question 2000 Sebring with spark will not start Read On.

I have a 2000 Sebring. 2.5L we are getting spark and fuel pressure is with-in specs. Replaced timing belt (checked 4 times for correct timing). Replaced Distributor (2 times) now getting spark. New wires and plugs (verified all plugs were making spark via new wires). No error codes present. New plugs do have a smell of gas. Checked out ASD relay replaced and replaced crank sensor. Car will still not start. Sometimes it seems like it wants to fire off. We did have it back fire a few times, thinking a timing issue but we rechecked that as well. Does anyone have any ideas?? I'm at a loss here. We did voltage checks at the Distributor they were correct. We had a good ground indication as well. We also re-verified TDC to #1 and verified rotor was in fact pointing at #1. The Keyed Cam on the distributor was installed 180 out we corrected that as well.

Thumbs down

No Codes we have now got it started. It is missing horribly. Rechecked spark and #4 cylinder is not getting spark. Recheck CPS checked out good. Pin 1: 8 Volts,Pin 2: Ground, Pin 3 5 Volts DC as I crank. Changed Cap and rotor again no change to problem. Ordered new Distributor (3rd) hope this works. I did try 3 different Plug wires all did not have spark on #4. I get a check engine while its running (rough at that) but when I shut off and read codes none are present nor saved to memory for that matter. Replaced battery as well. I did do the disconnect the battery and wait 5 minutes (more like I waited an hour) and restarted, again the check engine light came on and again when shut off the codes were not in memory or present. I will update later tody when I replace distributor.

If the engine is missing "horribly" and the check engine light is on, then there absolutely should be codes in there. Either your code reader is not good or the engine computer is not good. I'd suspect your code reader first. The model year 2000 is OBD II compliant. Make sure your code reader is also. Did you try the "key dance" method? Key on-off-on-off-on.

Make sure you haven't mixed up a pair of spark plug wires.
