Default 2004 Sebring Convertible Horn Not Working

Hello all and TIA for any help you can provide. I've read many of the threads concerning the horn 'pad' (airbag cover) and shorting clockspring.

The horn isn't working at all. However, when depressing the horn on the steering wheel, I can hear and feel (with a finger on it) the relay clicking. I then swapped the relay with the same type next to it with the same result. It's been awhile since I tried this and I don't recall what the second relay was controlling but I do know that whatever it was, it worked with the horn relay swapped in place.

If the relay is clicking and seems good, can I say the horn pad is working as it should?

How easy is it to remove the right headlamp to get to the horn?

Though this is my soon-to-be-ex-wife's car I don't want her to get taken at the dealer with an unneeded horn pad replacement. Again...thanks for any help you might provide.

REMOVAL
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove right side headlamp unit. (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/LAMPS/LIGHTING - EXTERIOR/HEADLAMP UNIT - REMOVAL).
Remove horn mounting bolt.
Disconnect wire harness connector.

REMOVAL
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the two retaining screws.
Remove upper fascia retainers by prying under the head of the fasteners with a flat bladed tool.
Remove headlamp unit from fender side first, then pull headlamp unit out.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the bulbs.
Remove the headlamp unit.

Thanks so much....that's very helpful!

Any thoughts on the horn pad question? Does my clicking relay mean the problem is further down the line?

Thanks again!!

"Does my clicking relay mean the problem is further down the line?"

That would certainly be the logical conclusion.

no that would be the relay doing its job.

But the relay is getting a signal from the switch, so things are probably good up to that point. If the relay is clicking and passing the current on, then the problem of why the horn doesn't blow is further down the line.

Thanks guys. I was hoping this ruled out a bad horn pad but logic doesn't always serve well with these cars

I'll have my hands on it again in a few days and will post a resolution when it's found.

Thanks again!

Default Any luck?

How's the effort to fix the horn?. I'm having the same problem with my 97 Sebring. It makes a clicking sound when I press the horn once, and if I try to press the horn multiple times, a fuse would blow (the same fuse is also for the cigarret lighter).
Also I found the relay is OK.

My horn is also not working correctly, I had two problems, first the horn it make a sound when pressing the steering wheel pad, I took the connector at the horn loose to check for 12V, found it to be intermittent, reconnected the connector, tried pressing and tapping the horn pad at different spots, got a little sound, real weak and muffled, took the horn off and found it full of water, dried it out as best i could and tapped on the horn as my GF tapped on the horn pad, sounds better, but i still have the bad connection in the steering wheel itself to fix. Don't know if this helps, but that was my experience.

Hi Guys, I know this thread is kinda old.. but i presume the horn is located in front of the right side headlamp unit in her 2005 Sebring Touring..

Her horn stopped working but the relay works still. so i need to trouble shoot it for her some.

Thanks again in advance.
