Default 2010 2.7L 41TES intechanges or swaps

Hey everyone.

I've been looking into drivetrain options on my 2010 Sebring and haven't found a lot of information, beyond the really unhelpful 'why waste your time with that?' comments. I'm wondering if anyone knows the technical interchange possibilities with the 2.7L/3.5L motors and the 41TES/62TE transmissions. I read somewhere that you could replace the 2.7 with the 3.5 and the existing 2.7 car's computer would run the 3.5 without modification... don't know if that's true or not. Haven't found anything on the transmission interchanges, beyond some torque converter size differences between the 41TE and 41TES... which would concern me when considering the 62TE to replace the 41TES, but I also found factory configurations of the 2.7L with the 62TE (a European model?).

I'm tired of 4 speeds... and I like 'more power'... I expect to be driving this car for a few more years at least. Thanks in advance...

Goddammit, I misspelled 'interchanges' in the thread title.

Okay, well, apparently few to zero people have done this or they're just keeping it a secret. Thanks.

As awesome as it would be to be able to interchange the engine and tranny, the 41TE and 62TE are two completely different transmissions. One is made by chrysler, and one is (reportedly) made by Mercedes. While technically, yes, you could swap out the engine and tranny with a 3.5 and 62TE respectively, it will require a lot of work.

Mounts are the same for both engines and I believe transmissions.
Accessories will bolt right on: power steering, compressor, alternator
TIPM and PCM should work just fine. Get a PCM from a 3.5 just to be sure. I don't think our cars have a TCM, but I'm not 100% sure. If so, the TCM will have to be completely changed out. After 2003, Dodge/Chrysler went from a PCM/ECU to a NGC (Next-Gen Controller). Basically it's a one size fits all approach to engine management.

Wire harness....maybe. Keeping in mind that the 2.7 and 3.5, while both have a variable intake, resistor values might be different and connectors might be different.

Cooling system should be the same. Minor changes here

Evap systems should be the same.

Main thing to worry about is mounting and the drivetrain. I'm not entirely sure they use the same drive shaft. Best thing to do for all of this is to get on a mopar parts website and start comparing part numbers and parts.

Oh, if you switch out the tranny, you will definitely need to replace the shifter. Different linkages. Especially with the autostick. As far as I know, the autostick doesn't do anything mechanical to the transmission, and is instead an electronic function of the shifter itself.

It's a lot to think about. Back to the interchange: I know that the transmission will not bolt up. The 62TE was a new transmission back in 2007, and was designed hand in hand with the 3.5 in mind. It only bolts up to two engines. The 3.5 and 4.0, as both of these engines had a redesign. You would have better luck mating it to the T930, as it was used briefly with the 2.7 R/T.

Thanks a ton, fhdaso, this is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. I didn't think it had been done much if at all considering the lack of information 'out there' on it. THANKS!

Doing further research into it, the 62TE was also used on a few 200s and Avengers with the 2.4L, but I'm not so sure about the 2.7L. There are a few 2010+ Avengers (the ones that got the facelift) that use the 2.7L, so I'm not sure if the 62TE was used, or the 41TE.

Interesting... and I'm assuming that the 6-spd transmission mated to the 3.6L pentastar was not the same as the 62TE...

Default 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2.7 to 3.5 swap

I am currently working on a 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2.7. I have swapped with the 3.5 and the 62TE transmission and auto stick shifter. The engine runs off the original ecm/tcm but will not shift so I got the computer from the donor car. I know I will have to get it programmed to my vin. My question is do I need to change the instrument cluster too? I also got it from the donor car just in case. Help please
