Default 2010 Sebring timing chain

Hi forum. Does any one know when the timing chain should be looked at for replacement? Also what components tend to wear first? Should I be worried about a loud rattle noise coming from that area?

Yes, you should be worried about a loud rattle coming from that area. Possible tensioner problem?

How often do they fail? The car has about 75,700 miles on it. How long do I have before I can't drive the car?

Are you talking about the belt or timing chain?

They only fail once. That is quite enough.

You can drive it until it fails. You won't be able to drive it after that. As to when that will occur, my crystal ball is a bit cloudy.

Yes. The timing belt or chain. Which engine do you have?

2.4 L. Hey would you have the same sound if there is too much oil in the engine?

Too much oil in the engine can result in the crankshaft hitting the oil in the sump resulting in foaming of the oil and resultant loss of pressure. I've never experienced it so can't tell you what it sounds like but I would guess that it wouldn't make a pleasant sound. If you know you've got too much oil in there, get it out. Better to be a quart low than a quart high.

Are you sure that is where youre sound is coming from? Try taking your serparine belt off and start the car up. There is a decoupler bearing o the altenator that is very common for going bad. If it is the bearing you can get one from amazon that is oem Gates 37018P Alternator Pulley:Amazon:Automotive this is the ones I use. Takes a 17mm hex to take ot off. Some after market ones you have to use a special tool on it.

Check this pulley before tearing the engine down.

Might just be the problem. The charge light came on while I was driving the other day. Had to get the car towed home! How easy is it to come off and put back on?
