well here is the latest the dealership drove the car and it acted up on them
the fuel pressure dropped to 10 psi and they tapped on the tank and it went back to 49 and
car ran fine so they replaced the fuel pump and reset the computer as it threw out lean codes
does this sound reasonable as to possibly solving my problem? thanks

threw out lean codes??? erased them or set them again??? remember what i said about lean it means the computer has to add much more fuel into the system to keep it running.and the code is set when it has to add more then certan threshold for a certan amount of time.

well drive it and see what happens if they were smart they would drive it 3 golbal good trips and turn out the check engine light off by the computer that would tell u for sure that the fuel pump was the root cause for the lean code. All that could be next is the fuel filter but i think they are built into the pump ne way or the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck

Hi,
My 96 sebring LXI died (engine fried due to timing belt failure do to ???) (going to sell for parts or donate to charity) but before all that I had a similar problem. It the first time it was the security system preventing the car from starting. The second time they had it for a week. It turned out to be theEGR gas return valves... this is a known issue. They wreaked havoc the car would not start and before that it would just die.
They also replaced my fuel pump, which seemed to help at first, but was completelyunecessary. (long story short) I wound up getting it for free as they could not put the old one back in.
After looking at toyotas and hondas and being jerked around by salesman, I purhcase a 2001 sebring to replace the old on. I like it so far. (It does not have a timing belt.)
