Convertible Top Fix
Ok so i finally scraped together the 500 bucks it costs to fix the back window(where the window has become disconnected from the hood) so i was wondering if anybody has had this done before and knows what they would do to the hood when they fix it? they told me they would have to replace the whole back but i dont really know what that means.....
thanks!

RE: Convertible Top Fix
The back glass is mounted on a separate fabric piece that is covered "wings" of the main top. In order to remove the back glass, the front edge of the top is raised 10 inches to relax the top. Then the tack strip in the back of the car is released by removing approximately 13 nuts. The tack strip consists of 5 separate pieces. Once the strip is loose, a jillion staples are removed to release the "wings" and the glass / fabric from the tack strips. Then the wings are raised over the last or 3rd bow of the top frame and the upper connection of the glass piece is exposed. This is rotated 90 degrees to the bow to release it and the glass / fabric assembly is removed.
If a new window is being mounted, the steps are reversed from here. If the glass is being reglued, then the glue should be set before remounting.

RE: Convertible Top Fix
Surf the web for a few minutes and search for instructions for replacing convertible tops. here's one site:

There are lots of documents out there if you look for them. The back window is relatively easy compared to the whole top, and there's less chance of screwing it up.
