Different fog light issue
2001 Convertible
Background:
My car had factory installed fog lights (switch is on the turn signal). The previous owner replaced them with something from walmart (which involved cutting out the 9006 sockets). These worked fine, but didn't look good. After losing a fight with a deer, my car's front was replaced. The repair shop would not replace or hook up the lights because they were aftermarket. I hooked them up and they worked fine again. Or, as fine as cheap lights can work. The glass broke a few years ago, so I stopped using the lights due to the illogical fear that the bulbs would short out and blow fuses and then my car would explode or leave me stranded.
Issue:
I purchased some new (oem?) lights off eBay. I bought 9006 sockets. My multimeter has low batteries, so I was unable to determine which wires were ground, but nothing on the lights, sockets, or packaging made any mention of polarity, so I went ahead anyway. After installing one light, I tested it and got nothing. I installed the other one with the wires connected the other way and still got nothing.
No fuses were blown, the headlight that they draw power from still works.
I checked to see if any power was coming from the wires and my multimeter shows 14-mv. That's either not enough to startle an ant, or I need new batteries to test that part too.
Questions.
The light on the dash does not show that the fog lights are on. Would the indicator light appear even if the bulbs were bad? If so, I think I have a bad/dirty switch. If that's the case, how can I clean it? Or do I need to replace it?
Thanks

I'll give it a shot in the morning.

Well, it took more than ten and I had to be a little rougher than I would have liked, but they work now. Thanks for the easy solution.
