Default intermittent cruise control

I have a 2002 Sebringlxi Conv. The cruise control will work fine, indicatorlight comes on, speed can be set, and coast and accel. functions all perform as designed. Sometimes after turning the switch off it will not come back on and the indicator light on the dash will not light up, and of course none of the functions will work. If I shut the car off and restart the cruise will begin to work again. Any ideas where to start?
Thanks

That was the problem, we couldn't find any codes or vacumm leaks. I run an AVIS Maintenance facility in NJ and we had never run across anything like this before. One of the local dealers suggested the brake lightswitch. We tried it (it was a cheap experiment, $14) and I think we nailed it. I went the long way home via interstate and parkway, tried it on and offprobably 20 times, used all the functions, and it never failed.

That was the exact problem with ours, they replaced the brake light switch and I have cruise control again!
