red blinking light on dash

RE: red blinking light on dash
If its a Convetrible, ie 2000- and older the red light which you might be reffering to is located on the upper right hand corner of the dashboard. This is the Anti-theft indicator, if it flashes while the car is running two things can happen:
A) The car will shut off in about 2 seconds as it thinks the key does not match its internal code
B) You have an electrical issue with the anti theft system, have the dealer look at it.
p.s: Did you get a new key made by any chance, that could be the issue as sometimes those keys could be defective.

I have a beat up '10 Sebring for commuting. Is this seriously a tow and repair situation on something that should have nothing to do with the car actually working!? ...and it can leave a person stranded!? What a serious design flaw. I'd like to know the statistics on the number of car thefts it's stopped v. the number of people it has left stranded. As the value of the car goes down, it could actually be an unnecessary feature that could total the car based on the tow and repair cost.
