Water Damage / Stereo Replacement Questions
Hi everybody!
I have a 1998 Sebring Convertible (Limited) and like the tons of other people, I've had several lakes in my passenger footwell. For a while, the stereo would work on and off, but now (past 6 months or so) only the speakers on the left side of the car work. I'm sure this is due to the water damage that was done to the power amp that lives under the passenger seat. What I want to know is if I need to replace the speakers, the amp, or both. What have other people done about the sound system after they've had this damage happen? Any help at all is greatly appreciated -- happy New Year!

I would start with the amp......Since it is the only one that has been submerged.
I know its of little comfort, but you Cannot "Wrap" the amp in anything to prevent water intrusion...It must breathe, or it will become a Fire hazard.
If you are good with wiring, it could concievably be moved to a new location, out of harms way.
If you can get a wiring diagram, a quick check for speakers is a "AA" battery across the wires (Isolated from the rest of the system of course). A sharp "POP", is reasonably safe to assume the speaker works.
YOU ARENT THE ONLY ONE PAL, TRUST ME.......

Nuts... that's the expensive part! I'm thinking about replacing the whole thing as a big project. So maybe on this next go I'll try and have the amp live somewhere else where it can't get into any trouble... Thanks!
