Default Water Outlet Housing

My car is at the shop as we speak due to it over heating last night. I believed it to be the radiator hose because the steam seemed to be coming from it when the repair shop confirmed otherwise. My question is being that the water outlet cracked is my water pump safe? What causes the breakage? Could I have prevented this by getting a radiator flush?

The coolant outlet is made of plastic. They tend to separate along a glued joint. There's no way to know whether your water pump may also be bad but there's no reason to expect that one will cause the other to fail. Flushing the radiator probably would have had no effect.
Replacing the outlet is a relatively straightforward operation, and if the shop is experienced with this repair they can do it pretty easily. Replacing the water pump is a much more complicated repair involving removal and replacement of the timing chain. You are talking hundreds of dollars in parts plus labor for that job. You are probably best off not to undertake that unless you know you need to.

Thanks so much for the information. This was very helpful. I feel better knowing that although I kept putting off getting the radiator flush done it wouldn't have made an affect on the crack.
