clunk or thump sound
I own an '07 Chrysler 300 Touring...35K miles, I purchased the car with 32K miles on it and not sure if I noticed what I think may or maynot be a problem. When I am driving the vehice at speeds of 20-40 mph then come to a slow downI feel a (slight) clunk or thump sound in the rear or what appears to be around my seating area (I am sure it's in the rear). I have been told by the dealership, i.e. head transmission guy that what I am experiencing is the car downshifting its gears from 4th to 3rd...he flashed the software with the latest H version, topped off my fluid andhooked up a machine to the cars computer which did illustrate the clunk or downshift thump was occurringwhen the car was going and/orshifting from 4th to 3rd. The hand-held machine would show what gear the car was actually in (4th) and show what the target gearwas (3rd)...in summation, they said I have no problem and the car, i.e. transmission-software is functioning properly (telling the car when to shift)...my question is why the clunk, thud, or thump sound...is this normal or is there a way to get rid of that ANNOYING sound. When I feel it, it makes me think something is wrong with my car. Thanks in advance.

RE: clunk or thump sound
I would go test drive a few of these cars and see if they are doing the same thing as well. If they don't, then I would be returning to the dealer and explain to them that you have driven several cars with the same drivetrain, and no clunk. Just a thought.

RE: clunk or thump sound
...I have attemted to do so, but have to find one with a "NAG1" transmission (mercedes). Moreover, most salesman state they have no idea what transmission is in said vehicles...could be true, but attainable if one took the time.
