Default Front Wheel Bearings

Ever since we purchased the car new back in 2005 there has been a hum coming from the front Passenger side wheel. I talked to the dealer and he claimed it was the tires. Well the Run Flat Continenals lasted about 12,000 miles and I now haveGoodyear Assurance tires AND the same sound.

I was rotating the tires the other day and figured I check the wheel bearings to see if there was anything going on. Imagine my shock when I popped the dust cap off and did not see any grease!!! They appear to be bone dry. Now since both sides are the same way I was less shocked but was left wondering.

Anyone what the deal is ? Did they screw up on both wheels or are these some kind of new bearing that don't need grease? I have about 35,000 miles on the car now and I didn't notice any wear on the bearings.....

Curious...

thx
