Wanted opinions on Sunroof installation
Morning all !
I recently purchased a 2012 300 and am regretting not opting for a factory installed sun roof in the model I chose. With that said, the dealer has offered to install a sun roof - stating that their methods for installing the sun roof is exactly like that of the factory - using a laser to cut the roof.
I have only heard of nightmares by people having the dealer install sun roofs - but that was years ago. Any comments or opinions if these days, dealer installed sun roofs are of equal quality as the OEM sun roofs ?
Thanks

The factory sunroofs that I have owned open by flipping up for ventilation AND by sliding back for full open. There are other types that will flip up but not slide back, because you need a proper headliner to accomodate the mechanism.
The factory sunroof incorporates drainage channels with tubes down the roof support pillars so that even if there's a little leak, it won't ruin the interior of the car.
Grill the dealer on his installation methods, which will require a rather significant teardown and rebuild of the interior to do a proper installation, not merely a laser cutting of the hole in the roof. Ask him to provide references from people for whom he has installed sunroofs and talk to them about their experiences.
Insist on a good warranty.
