Default 07' Aspen, Camera like device close to sunroof control

Hello All,
I have a 2007 Apen(with 286,000 km's)and I've always wondered what this device is.
It looks like a tiny camera lens, like the type used on webcams or cell phone cams, and it's located just ahead of the sunroof and rear hatch switches.

Anyone have any idea what this is for?

Infrared (IR) temp sensor, which works with the automatic climate control. It measures occupant surface temperatures, does a little math, and figures out what the a/c temp and fan speed should be to keep the cabin at the temperature you set.

Or it's Big Brother watching...take your pick.

Are you sure? How does that work since there are two climate zones in the front? Would take two sensors to do what you described.

I'm not making this stuff up. Here's an excerpt from page 255 of the 2008 owner's manual:
The ATC system uses an infrared sensor
located in the overhead console to measure the temperature
of the driver and passengers. Based on the
sensor input, the system will automatically control
comfort by varying the temperature, fan speed, and
mode. This maintains a comfortable temperature, even
under changing conditions. It is important that objects
are not blocking the infrared sensor. It is also important
that objects are not used that may scratch or
damage it in any way.
