Waswondering if anyone has noticed any discoloration, oxidation, scarring,or pitting on your wheel covers? I constantly keep my Apsen washed, yet am noticing this.

I have no problems but I wax it when I clean it with Eagle One spray wax. Easy to use and quick protection.

I haven't noticed anything on my wheels, but I have noticed the chrome on theleft rear of the cover has started to fail/pitt. I waxed the entire vehicle included all wheels, chrome, paint, lights etc, with Mothers pure Carnuba when I bought it, and again in September 08, I don't know why it fails tho. Must be an adhesion probem. Something for our warranty?? he he

I'm sure they can pit - they're little more than hubcaps applied to the wheel.

Along those lines, does anyone know if the "chrome clad" cover can be replaced? That's the ONLY conceivable benefit I can think of for these things.

I asked about taking the wheel covers off for cleaning and/or replacement purposes, and the parts guy at the dealership said they are expoxied/glued on. I like to wash the backsides ofwheels and tires when I rotate them, but there's no way to take these off. Before I go thru the expense of replacing an entire wheel just for the wheel covers, I'll buy look-a-like aftermarket chrome wheels instead. Unfortunately, I didn't do my homework, and didn't know exactly what "Chrome Clad" meant when I ordered it. Was very shocked/disappointedthe first time I washed the thing, and found out they were plastic. Got over it quickly, but was ticked again when they started discoloring.

Angry "Chrome Cladding"

I have the same problem - I read Chrome Clad and having worked in industry assumed it was as the dictionary defines it -
  1. A metal coating bonded onto another metal under high pressure and temperature.
These are cheap plastic on a $38,000 car! My wifes Grand Prix has real polished aluminum wheels, an aluminum sub frame and cost half as much. Also the chrome on the passenger handle bubbled after 3 months. I guess I had better check and see if it is metal. I have never bought a foreign car but this stuff is making me think twice

I have not had my wheel covers pit, but my rims have. The small area of the rim that is exposed by the bead of the rim pitted on all 4 of my wheels. Chrysler replaced them under warranty about 1 year ago. Guess what, replacements are pitting also, also to be changed out under warranty.

I say let the factory wheels go & get aftermarkets. That way you don't have to run back & forth to the dealer over chrome-coated plastic wheels.
