Replacement tire Sizes and Towing
Just got a 2009 Aspen with the 20" rims. Having a tough time finding tires for the 265/50/20 size but seem to have no problem finding tires in the 275/55/20 and 275/60/20 sizes here in Canada and they are less expensive. Just wondering if anyone has tried something in the 275 size and whether you encountered any clearance issues with suspension components. With the tire being slightly wider (10mm or about 1/3") it was my only concern as there appears to be plenty of room in the wheel wells for a larger tire even when the tires are turned lock to lock.
I checked with an online tire calculator and the 275/55/20 are about 5% out on the speedo compared to the originals. I would have to upgrade my 265/65/17 spare to a 70 aspect ratio to compensate it.
I plan on towing a 29' trailer so looking for an XL load tire. I have the 3:92 diff and full equalizer hitch setup with dual friction anti-sway bar setup with electric trailer brake. The trailer weighs about 8500 lbs fully loaded. Wondering if anyone has attempted towing that kind of length and weight any distance (5000 mi) with their Aspen and the 20" wheels and tires.
Also thinking of installing rear airbag suspension as the trailer tongue weight is about 600 lbs and even with the equalizer setup drops the rear end more than I like.
Any constructive comments/thoughts appreciated.

Just put the 275/55/20s on today and checked for clearances around suspension and wheel wells with steering lock to lock on front and also around rear suspension. No issues what so ever. No rubbing noises when driving and turning either. Only thing is that the speedo is out about 3%. So when the speedo says 100 kph (62.1 mph), I'm actually travelling 103 kph (64 mph). So if you are in the market for less expensive tires than the OEMs at 265/50/20 then give it a try. I will have to upsize my 17" spare to compensate, thinking 265/70/17 should do it. Original spare is 265/65/17.
Not sure why the 265/50/20s cost so much more than the 275/55/20s, maybe supply and demand thing?
