Default Transmission issues

I was getting another issue checked at the garage, but while it was hooked up to the computer, it was throwing a code for an incorrect shift (4 to 5 I believe). The mechanic recommended a flush and filter change. I'll probably get this done as it's been a while (55000 miles) since the last one, and I tow a trailer. I'm wondering if it needs to be reprogrammed as well? I thought I remember reading something about this at some point. Anyone have similar issues with shifting errors?

Default Hard downshift

I have an '09 AWD Aspen. Love it so far. Anyone have a hard downshift issue? I have read that a software update takes care of it. I also noticed a clunk under driver floor board, usually in lefthand turn. I'm thinking t-case mount, axle shaft/cv joint or possibly a sway bar bushing. Thoughts?

TIMOPAR,

I've identified a possible flash update that could help eliminate the hard downshift condition, in which case I recommend getting your Aspen to a Chrysler dealer.
Also, I'd recommend checking and possibly changing the T-case fluid to see if that changes anything.

Hi Timopar,

Have your local dealer review TSB 18-011-12.

This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

Driveability and Transmission improvements are also included with this software
release. These changes consist of the following:

a. Enhanced clutch protection for more robust torque management during repeated
fore and aft movement (rocking vehicle) all engines.
b. A revised torque convertor lockup schedule that will reduce transmission
temperatures in Tow/Cruise mode All models equipped with RFE transmission.
c. A Clunk sound or feel a shudder when the cruise control resume switch is pressed.
This condition is most noticeable after the brakes were pressed to cancel cruise
control and then the resume switch is pressed All models equipped with RFE
transmission.
d. A shudder or shaking feeling when a wide open throttle (WOT) event is performed
by the customer. This is most noticeable after the transmission downshifts during the
WOT event. This condition will stop once the transmission upshifts All models
equipped with RFE transmission.
e. A shudder or shaking feeling when accelerating from a stop under moderate throttle.
This condition will stop once the transmission upshifts All models equipped with
RFE transmission.
f. A shudder or shaking feeling after the transmission downshifts. This condition will
stop once the RPM's drops All models equipped with RFE transmission.
g. Harsh or noisy natural to reverse shiftsAll models equipped with RFE
transmission.
h. Harsh 4-3 downshifts. This condition happens when there is no throttle applied and
the vehicle is coasting down. All models equipped with RFE transmission.
i. Harsh 1-2 upshifts. This condition happens under moderate or heavy throttle
conditions All models equipped with RFE transmission.
j. Engine knock condition. This condition could happen when a wide open throttle
(WOT) event is performed or cruising at 5400 RPM or above All models equipped
with RFE transmission.
k. Hard start or long crank condition at 0° F (-17° C).all 5.7L DS and DJ models
equipped with RFE transmission.

Reprogramming the PCM will correct the DTC conditions listed above.

Thank you guys! I have an appointment for wed. My aspen has the 286 v8, we just did a run to payson, then flag the next day, these are elevated cities in my state. Keeping the trans in tow/haul and rpms at 3k, I was shocked at how the hills were pulled. All but one grade I held 75 mph. Average mpg went from 17.8 to 18.4. I chose bilsteins on all corners, improvement was everything I knew it would be. In addition to my first post respective to trans, high speed deceleration also seems to be excessive, almost like you hit a jake brake. Hoping re flash eliminates this. I am tickled pink with this truck, wanted one since I first saw the styling, my wife noticed an aspen back in May, she liked it, I shopped and bought the next day!
