'04 PAC Transmission Problems
A family member bought the car new. We got it at about 25,000 miles. Before 3 yrs/36,000 the trans. was serviced with BG Products and synthetic fluid. Was serviced again at about 60,000 + miles. Months later the trans developed a problem and was rebuilt by the same very reputable shop that did the services. The BG Products paid a max of $2,000 under their warranty for the rebuild. Some months later It still didn't act right. Same shop removed the trans and completely went back thru it and also replaced the convertor but nothing wrong was found. Several times later it would have code PO740. Reset and driven with a scanner along everything would look/work fine. Also a solenoid pac was replaced in the process too. It may go several months before the P0740 would show up again but nothing to fix. Shop says there must be a "glich" somewhere in the elect system. I added a extra ground from the batt to the body a while back but it hasn't helped. Has anyone else had a "mystery" problem like this one ?? Could there be a problem with the TCM or PCM ? Today a Chrysler dealer did a complete scan and updates. Hope that fixes it but time will tell. Any other suggestions to try rather than throwing part$ at it ? Thanks. *BW*

P0740-TCC OUT OF RANGE
either they put a ****ty converter in or used your old one
the trans will need to come back out and possibly rebuilt again with all of the metal that is now flying around inside the trans

Having the same shudder, shake, and shifting problems again. Same code as several times before. Shop checks, scans, drives and controls the transmission and finds no problems. Yes, the converter was replaced the first time it acted up after the rebuild. Shop says something else is throwing mis-info causing a code. There was a much earlier post about problems like this but I can't find it. What else would be the most likely part to cause this ? Something in the electrical system ? Maybe even the trans. controller ? Hasn't anyone else been thru this before ? Thanks. *BW*

You say "metal that is now flying around inside the trans". If we drop the pan to confirm at our own expence and there is none found then what ? Could there be a sensor, or relay or something that could be a intermittent sometime problem other than a hard part causing the code ? The shop is the most reputable trans shop around. Thanks. *BW*

When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0740-TCC OUT OF RANGE
When Monitored: The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) is in FEMCC or PEMCC, Transmission
temperature is hot, Engine temperature is greater than 38° C or 100° F,
Transmission Input Speed greater than 1750 RPM, TPS less than 30°.
Set Condition: The TCC is modulated by controlling the duty cycle of the L/R Solenoid
until the difference between the Engine and the Transmission Input Speed RPM or duty
cycle is within a desired range. The DTC is set after the period of 10 seconds and 3
occurrences of either: FEMCC - with slip greater than 100 RPM or PEMCC - duty cycle
greater than 85%.

I agree with TC
Either the converter was defective, or , More likely....The rebuillder Didnt FLUSH the cooler when the unit was installed......
Either way...its coming apart again....
Electrical issues would typically Not set a code like that......An "OPEN CKT" code .Yes absolutely, But if you think about it....There is no way to simulate a Slippage condition with an OPEN CKT.......
