Default 04 transmission whine

New Member here. I will appreciate any help.

04 AWD Pacifica 99k miles 3.5L

the transmission whines as it goes through the gears, esp. 1st and 2d. it seems like the normal sound of a transmission but much louder. certainly not a sound i heard two years ago. slow to upshift. when I come to a stop the car will downshift into first and then surge just before it stops. this has been intermittent, but getting to become regular.

have not yet had the trans fluid changed, but manual said for highway miles it was not yet time. i'm no expert but i checked level and it was ok. didn't have a noticeable off smell. no codes.

one mechanic said the gears are starting to go and advised against a 500 mi. drive. $2700 to fix it.

A whine in all gears usually means that your oil pump is wearing out. that would give you low pressure and weird shifting. If I were you I would take it to a "Transmission Shop". They specialize in transmissions. they would hopefully give you a straight answer.
