RE: 05 Burning oil, lots of oil
Ok, I have information to add to this. My '05 Pacifica AWD Limited about 1.5 weeks ago started making a loud clicking sound in the engine compartment. I was concerned and stopped several times to try and figure out where it was coming from. I started looking at fluids and when I pulled the engine oil dip-stick it was not showing any visible oil on it at all. I added 3 quarted of recommended 10w-30 and within a few minutes of the engine running the clicking sound went away.
I contacted Lake Norman Chrysler where we purchased the car and I spoke with Dennis, a service coordinator there. He said he was aware of a clicking problem and knew of a solution but was not aware of any oil burning issue. I took the car in on Monday of this week and they performed the following service to rectify the problem.
"Replaced Lifter Rails and Valve Stem Seals to correct complaint"
The service cost me exactly $100 which was the deductible for the 75k mile power train warranty so it was nice to only have to pay that. They say if the problem recurs within 12k miles they'll fix it again for free. On driving the car home it sounds fine but it sounded fine after I added oil to it when it first started making the sound. I will keep an eye on the dip stick for the next few weeks and let you guys know how it looks.
For the record, the owners manual says 10w-30 but when Chrysler put oil into the car they used 5w-30.
