Default 05 Passenger Air Bag On/Off light

As the name states...05 pacifica..

Mornin..

I recently my...er..the wife a Pacifica...

I have a problem with the passenger airbag / light...I cannont seem to disable it..there is a place on the center of the dash where it says "passenger airbag off"...but there is not a light on...even when there is no one in the seat.

Do some come without a passenger airbag? or is there something funny going on with this thing...

Thanks

Michael

In many cases these "smart" airbags will only disable themselves if it detects a lighter-than-adult weight in the seat. Such as a child/carseat. That's when you don't want the airbag deploying at adult-stopping speeds, so it will turn itself off. If nobody is in the seat, it can deploy all day long and not hit anything it shouldn't so it will stay activated. If you really want to test the system, set a box or something that weighs 20-30 pounds in the seat and see if the "Passenger Airbag Off" light illuminates once you start driving. Really you shouldn't have a kid sitting in the front seat anyway unless you have no other choice, so the feature may or may not be used.

Check your owners manual. It's probably explained in there. Every other dash light is.
