06 Pacifica Burning Oil

06 Pacifica Burning Oil
I have an 06 Pacifica Touring, 3.5L with 25k miles and it is burining oil. I took it in and for the second oil change in a row they said it was about 1-1/2 quarts low to start. I drove it about 800 miles over the weekend, and sure enough when I got home, it was about 1/2 quart low.
Three Chrysler dealerships near me say that burning a quart in 1000 miles is acceptable. And that after the car has 50k miles on it, that a quart in 750 miles is acceptable.
This is absolutely ridiculous to have to worry about burning oil in a car that isn't quite 2 years old with 25k miles. They are now monitoring the oil levels every thousand miles, but unless it goes over the 'normal threshold' they are just going to send me on my way.
Any thoughts? It is definately burning and not leaking as our garage floor is clean.

When my 04 had 20-30k miles I noticed I would be down 1 quart at oil & filter change time. My dealer said the same thing yours told you: one quart in 1000 miles is ok. I have 85k on the Pac now and it is still the same. One quart every 3000 to 3500 miles. I have never added oil between oil changes yet. The garage floor is clean.

I have found that after I do an oil change and run the car for a few miles and check it...it's low. After I fill it back up it doesn't lose any oil until I change it. I believe that you have to run the car to get the proper oil level and then add if you need to. If you don't smell oil burning in your exhaust then it's not burning a noticeable amount.

As a dealer tech,I have NEVER said to a customer that a quart or a liter of oil every 1000 miles is normal. I do not know anyone that would even say that. Chrysler has no policy on what is acceptable oil usage. Common knowledge is that 1 quart/liter per 3000miles/5000km can be considered acceptable.

Thanks everyone. What I struggle with is paying over $30k for a car, and then 25k miles later it is burning oil at a pretty good rate....3/4 - 1 qt per 1000 miles.
They are monitoring it now at the dealership every 1000 miles. I put 400 miles on it the past 2 days and it has used between 1/4 - 1/2 quart, so it isnt going to stop and it doesnt appear they are going to fix it.....
If it plays out this way, no more Chryslers for me....and thats all I have ever owned. I know they don't care about 1 single owner, so I'll just carry out my individual protest.

hozz,
I agree with you, 1 qt in 1000 is alot. I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with over 119000. I use synthetic in it & I go 7500 between changes and it might use 1/4 qt in that amount of time which I feel is ok especially with that many miles on it. It's not just Chrysler though, I've seen the same stories in Honda forums where they've been told on a brand new Honda that 1qt in 1000 is acceptable.

Well, this time it used 1-1/4 quarts in 1200 miles....and they now want to change the oil and monitor more. Are they just trying to run my warranty out with this process?
The oil was well under the MIN add line, so I think it is time they fix the car, but they don't show any interest in anything other than monitoring the oil level, which they have been doing for 4,000 miles at 1,000 mile intervals.
UGH!!!!
Also, the deaership today has lowered the acceptable standard from burning 1 quart in 1000 miles down to buring 1 quart in 800 miles. So I need to add 4 quarts between oil changes and thats cool......this is awful.

Hey all. I have recently opened up a new blog to track my saga with my oil burning Pacifica. Even though it has just been up a short while, I have begun to get quite a bit of traffic.
