Exclamation Busted Mystery Case!

I recently noticed very small drops of transmission fluid from the Pacifica. I got on the ground to take a quick look to find the transmission cooler has seen better days. I wanted to take a closer look so I raised the vehicle and slid under with a light and was shocked to see cracks and gaping holes in some type of case that held splined gears of some nature. It seems to be connecting to the FWD. I have no idea what this is and am terrified of the cost involed to replace this part. Hopefully it can be done at home.

Any ideas? What might this part be?

All Wheel Drive? That's the power transfer unit. (transfer case) Did you get stuck somewhere and spin the wheels?

No. I noticed drops of transmission fluid and that is what we found when we looked under the truck.

I failed to mention this is on the front of the car and looks to be connected to the drive shaft for the front passenger wheel. Would this still indicate the power transfer unit? All information I've found so far says the power transfer unit is located in the rear.

No, you didn't spin the wheels or, no it's not AWD?
