In a Desperate Situation.... Please Help
Please Help, 2500 miles from home with two kids and my wife.
I have a 2004 Pac FWD.
I was driving down the road doing about 60 MPH. All of a sudden I heard this clacking sound coming from the engine, more prominent from the drivers side, got louder as I accelerated. Sounded kind of like when you were a kid and placed ball cards in your bikes spokes.
I got to a hotel and opened the hood and I can hear a rumble coming from the engine while it is just idling, sounds kinda like a motorcycle when idling. I pulled the throttle cable and the rumbling got louder. Its sounds like it is in the back of the engine in the lower area but not for certain.
What could this be?????? I checked the belts and they are all fine, keep in mind I have limited knowledge when it comes to cars.
Thanks for the help,
Wes

Sounds like the plug on the bottom of the EGR valve popped out. Did the same thing on my wife's car. No engine code light up, it's just loud.
You're fine driving it home, but you'll want to get it replaced when you get back, if you can live with the noise.
I did notice when I picked up the replacement, that they now have a snap ring in a groove that keeps the plug from popping out again.
