Default ESP-BAS and TRACTION Lights

Hello to all!

I am brand new to this forum and excited to be here!

We own a 2007 Pacifica 4.0L Touring and the ESP/BAS and Traction lights come on and stay on after the car is started. For approx. 5 months this is the way it acted until approx. 2 months ago when the check engine light came on. Using the computer at Advanced Auto, the code said the steering angle sensor was off.

Chrysler told me it was a sensor in the steering column and led me to believe that the whole column needs to be removed and it would be approx $800 to fix the issue.

I've tried disconnecting the battery, connecting it, and then moving the steering wheel all the way to the right and then left. That didn't work. An independant mechanic tested it and told me the clockspring needed to be replaced. Is that where the sensors are housed? I'ved changed the clockspring in another vehicle and it wasn't hard. Anyone know if there is a special procedure?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nick

well lets see ESP/BAS and Traction lights is for your abs brakes and traction control and a clock spring is for your air bag so I would say no that replacing the clock spring will not help u any. With out the codes fro the light any one will simply guess.
Take it to teh dealer they diog the prob.

Dear Mr. CHRYSLER TECH:

The Chrysler DEALER diagnosed it as the clockspring with the steering angle sensor being defective. $280 for the part and $800 tp put it in (as the orgininal post said).
All I want to know is if it is an easy DIY job. That's all. Don't know why your answer had a bit of an attitude

"Chrysler told me it was a sensor in the steering column" U said nothing about a clock spring there only some sensor needed to be replaced

"An independant mechanic tested it and told me the clockspring needed to be replaced"

This was the only place u said anything about a clock spring I wont take the advise of an independent after u have had it at the dealer where the correct tools were used to see what the issue was.

As for doing it yourself no the SAS will need to be reprogrammed once replaced and unless u care to mess with air bag system I would not mess with it.

There was no attitude toward you I was reading and trying to comprehend what I was reading and it did not make any sense.

started getting all three of these warning lights intermittently since my airbags got replaced.

Maybe they damaged the clockspring/SAS when replacing the airbags.

Is there some Chrysler specific OBDII tool like there is Dice/Vida for Volvos?
