Default Oil Usage

I have a 2007 Pac with the 4.0L I just had to add a quarter quart after 700 miles since the first change. How are these engines with oil usage? I am a bit spoiled as I previously ran Honda Accords and currently also own a Hyundai XG350L none of which I have ever added oil between changes, even with high mileage.

Your comments on your experience with oil usage will be appreciated.

Did you change the oil yourself or had it changed? I know when I changed the oil for the first time I thought I had put in the correct amount but I guess I came up short and it was low when I checked it a month later. I say this because the second time I changed it I made sure that I had the correct amount, started it up and waited for the temperature to heat up to operating and checked it again and I had to add some. When I checked it a month later it was perfect. I always heat up the car before and let the oil fill the filter before I check it and top it off but for some reason the first time it came up short. Even though Chrysler states that a certain amount of oil consumption is normal, a quart short to me is too much. If I were you I would make sure that it is filled properly before assuming that it's burning or leaking that much.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I will watch closely now that it's topped up. I did change it myself as I always do. I put in the 5 1/2 qts the manual called for. The Pac has very few miles about 1,700 at this point so some might still be getting by the rings before total break in. It's just that I have never added oil to nine consecutive Accords and the XG.

I understand what you're saying. I have a 2000 Jetta 1.8T with 115,000 miles on her and she doesn't burn or lose a drop of oil; what I put in is what I take out. Monitor the oil and see what happens. Your PAC is brand new and you probably are still breaking her in as you said. Good luck!
