Wink

After reading this thread, I am happy that none of my vehicles have TPMS. I just don't want to waste time on such nonsense.

its all federal mandated BS because people are to lazy to check there tire pressure so they needed big brother to make the nasty car makers to make them tell them when there tire pressure is low so they dont get into or cause an accident.

I hear you loud & clear on federally mandated BS part. In my industry federal mandates are causing havoc as well, in the name of safe practices. And it was not long ago that federal government wanted everyone to have 'affordable' housing at low interest rates. We all know how did it go.

BTW does all new cars come with TPMS? Is there a loophole so that one can get a car without TPMS or remove it after buying the car?

Default STSS message - the saga continues

Sorry to hear that others are having the same problem, but it's gratifying to share my continuing frustration with you.

When it became time to replace the tires on my Pac. again, I replaced all four sensors (for the second time!). I trained them, and the message finally cleared- for about two days! Then the system asked me if the spare tire was in use, and before I could even respond, it slipped back to the STSS message again. I've tried re-training about twenty times since then, and the system doesn't even respond anymore. I've pretty much given up on it at this point, but I'd be lying if I said seeing that message every time I drive that car doesn't still make my blood boil!

I believe Chrysler has a real problem here, but they show no interest in dealing with it. It's majorly annoying to know I have to deal with this because there are morons out there who won't (or can't) check their tire pressures manually!
Save me from the Federal government!!!

I am not sure of the law but I know just like everything there is a certain cutoff where all cars will be required to have them for safety so they say. Thats why we all have seat belts and air bags and side air bags and that oo love this one passenger air bag cut off. If the weight is to low below 90lbs I think it will shut off the pass side air bag for the people that will refuse to tell there kids to sit in the back because u are to small to ride up front so they again they need big brother to step in and protect the stupid.
I should have a congress man propose a Darwin theory law and ween out all the people with no common sense. Nature has been doing it for millions of years.

You know, your statement is politically incorrect, socially unacceptable and definitely immoral. You would not be able to be elected with such views if running for a public office position .

In general all governments, pop culture media and social organizations are trying their best to halt or reverse 'survival of the fittest".

If these sensors have batteries that when low cause this problem, isnt it possible to just change the batteries of those sensors ?? I am getting the same message, but my main battery was low, so I changed it. However message still pops up ?

Nope, the batteries are integrated. The earlier sensors had a life of about 5 years or so. I don't think it's changed much. I am seeing them die out on a bunch of 2008 models now.

Smile Got 4 tire pressure readings but still Service Tire Sytem Soon

I have a recently purchased 2008 (built 10/07) Pacifica Limited FWD. Love the car, nice step up from my older Buick Rendezvous. I bought 2 used 19 inch rims off ebay (ouch) mounted 2 Blizzak snow tires with 2 new dorman sensors (from rockauto.com). After about half hour after mounting the snow tires and driving around I got pressure readings in the dashboard for all 4 tires and the TPMS light disappeared. Prior to the readings the 2 new tires just showed -- in the space where number is suppose to display and the TPMS yellow light was lit on the dash. All tires are running between 34 and 36 PSI. 2 questions:

1) Does the system still need to be programmed to eliminate the Service Tire System Soon message? I thought the newer limited pac models were self learning. If they can read the tire pressure why can't they stop displaying the message?

2) The local Sears tire and auto place says they will program 4 sensors for $19.95. It they do that will the 2 tires off the car need to be reprogrammed when mounted back on? I know this is probally a question for Sears.

Thx , Dave
