What Consumers Need to Know About ATF+4

In response to marketplace demands and evolving vehicle technology, Chrysler LLC established a licensing program for its advanced synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, ATF+4® in 2005. This program allows ATF+4 to be made available at retail outlets and through independent repair facilities for Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicle automatic transmissions.

ATF+4 is a high performance, synthetic fluid which provides significant reduction in component wear, superior temperature performance, consistent shift quality, and exceptional friction modifying properties for automatic transmissions in Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicles. The durability of ATF+4® has been successfully proven through more than one million miles of testing in severe environments and an intensive validation process.

I don't think that means you can drive YOUR car one million miles without changing the tranmission fluid. I think that means they have driven a variety of cars a total of one million miles in their testing program.

50-70k is what I'm sticking with. Always have. That's a lot of heat cycles for tranny fluid. Everything degrades after a while, man-made stuff just takes a little longer.

My 07 PAX 4.L 6 speed auto has nod dip stick, and I have ben told only a dealer can check it. The Owners Manual I have says the transmission needs only changed at 103,000 miles. This seems rather long, but I was told the fluid is super high cost in this transmission. In all my other vehicles I changed the filter and fluid every 30,000 miles and then at 60,000 I had it pumper and flushed and refilde. This was done on a rotation, and I have gotten 196,000 on our Dodge Neon. I am just rather puzzled about the checking of the fluid and changing filters on this 6 speed auto.

Nice site about teh ATF missed some key words
The durability of ATF+4® has been successfully proven through more than one million miles of testing in severe environments and an intensive validation process.
one million miles of all teh different trannys in the chrysler family 604 the 45RFE and so on.
We have ooo 62TE,41TE,42RLE,45RFE,545RFE,NAG1,40TE I know I missed one or 2 between all of those avg of million miles. No way in hell a tranny will work for 1 million miles the clutches will be gone the springs and snap rings would be crushed.
HAHA forget all of that the converter wont last that long either.

Sorry, I forgot I posted this. So I need to change the fluid, no big deal. One more question, in a work fan I had, ford winstar, the tranny started slipping right after I bought it with 110K on it. I called ford and they said if it had not been changed do not to change the fluid now. They little pieces of clutch material in the fluid was acting like the friction surfaces and new fluid would cause it to slip more.

My question, with 80K and no problems, will I cause any problem changing it.

Thanks

Also, I read somewhere that it is a PITA to change the fluid in the Pac. Is is any worse than any other car. From my experience, it is never fun. But I was told it was a PITA to change spark plugs on the 3.5 and it turned out to be one of the easiest I have done.
