What new tyres to buy?
Hi,
My 2004 Pacifica AWD blew the left rear tyre on the highway. Luckily the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerted me instantly and I was able to get the car off the road and onto the shoulder without any trouble. It was great that the TPMS was there to alert me before the car's handling was affected, especially since I was on the highway doing 65mph with cruise control when this happened.
Anyway, I found that the tyre had been penetrated by some sharp object that had gouged a nasty tear and the tyre is unrepairable; I've to replace it. But since this is an AWD vehicle, I've to replace all four tyres now.
I wanted to ask what tyres fellow forum members would recommend. My Pacifica originally came with Goodyear Integrity tyres, but those have terrible user reviews. I'm thinking of either the Continental Cross Contact LX or the Kumho Solus KH16...
Also, would it be alright to get the tyres mounted at a place like Town Fair Tire or should I stick to a Chrysler dealership? The TPMS has to be reprogrammed and I saw an earlier post where one of the members (a Chrysler tech) diagnosed that a third-party shop had damaged the TPMS while mounting the tyres.
Thanks and regards,
Jagan.

RE: What new tyres to buy?
I got a set of Goodyear Assurance tires. THEY ARE AWESOME! Well worth it and less expensive than the Michelins they replaced. Much, much better handling on dry and wet pavement. They also work good in the snow and I think they are rated for 80,000 miles. Highly rated by all the consumer magazines as well.

If money is no object Goodyear F1 GSD 3s.
Good bang for your buck is Falken 451 or 452.
Tire pressure monitors should not need reprogramming. Put them back in the same location.
Remind any installer, dealer or independant, that you have sensors in your wheels!
