Default Winter: windows fogging up like crazy

I have an 05 Touring. Living in Montreal, Canada (NorthEast) Last winter seemed to be ok, but this year the car is really fogging up like crazy since it got cold. The rear side windows are terrible and I have to keep the HVAC on Defrost full blast just to see out the front and half the front side windows.

Replaced the Cabin Filter, No water accumulation there. Could the fresh air intake shutter be jammed? is there an easy way to check this?

Thanks.

I think it is because of wet floor mats. We also have snowy winters in Lithuania and I meet the same problem. I try to keep floor mats as dry as possible and it helps.

I Would sooner guess the AC compressor is not operating. Not sure if the Chrysler system will not run below a certain temperature. Here in NW Ohio ours runs all year but we are seldom out and about below about the mid 20's.

I doubt it's the mats.

Temps have been steady under 15°F. The car is outside, no block heater. The defrost does seem to work to a certain extent, but only removes fog up to half the front windows. Beyond that, it's all fogged/frosted up.

As mentionned, l do not recall anything like this last year, which is why I'm thinking jammed fresh air door.

Do I have to disassemble the passenger-side or is there an easy way to check it?

could it be a blown fuse which controls the intake door actuator?

Thanks

Try disconnecting the battery for a short bit and see if this remedies the problem. Sometimes my controler will 'lock' and only put air out the dash vents no matter the position I select. If I disconnect the battery or remove the radio fuse for a few minutes, the doors will recalibrate and then all is good. Maybe this could help you if the blend door is stuck or lost.

Looking at what you describe one of two things is not happening.

*AC Compressor is not coming on to remove moisture from the air.
*The Recirc door is stuck causing only air inside the car to be heated and moisture to not be removed.

Battery reset (2 minutes negative terminal unplugged) seems to have worked. Thanks Jay!

I figured it had to be the recirc door as the defrost was working, but seemed like it was fighting a losing battle.

Did anyone ever find a better solution to this than the battery / fuse disconnect?

I have the exact same problem and was hoping to solve it permanently. I tried the "hold the power and the recirc button for 5 seconds" trick. that seemed to have no effect. Thanks.

the battery disconnect/reconnect ended up being a permanent solution. it reset the system. if it's not working, the door could be jammed, the actuator broken, or something else could be at issue.
