Default 1994 Chrysler T&C Tailgate sensor will not shut off

Hello,

I own a 1994 Chrysler Town and Country minivan.

The dashboard is all electronic.

When I drive the car, it says that the tailgate is open on the dashboard sensor. The interior lights will not shut off as a result, and my car beeps at me a couple of times when I start it and when I hit bumps to tell me something is wrong.

The dashboard tailgate sensor flicks on and off, along with the lights and the beeping, whenever I hit a bump.

I have checked, nothing is impeding the locking mechanism. The buttons on the either side of the tailgate on the inside of the car, which may or may not be connected to the sensor (I have no idea), do not seem to be stuck. Nothing is impeding the tailgate and I have confirmed it is indeed shut tight and will not open.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks.
