Default 1994 Town & Country will not shut off until door is opened

Hello everyone! Glad to be a member of the forums.

I have a problem with my Town & Country that's pretty crazy and I am unable to find information on it anywhere. It starts up fine, but when i attempt to shut off the car it continues to run until any door of the van is opened; then it shuts off. This includes the back door.

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated and if anyone needs more details please just let me know!

Josh

Do you have an aftermarket radio installed?

Nope.

I've done a little research on it and lots of fingers point to the ignition switch which i can verify is not the problem, if that helps.

There was a feature that first came out on that generation van and is used on just about everything now. The radio will stay on after the key is off UNTIL the door is opened. If there is a short to power inside the radio, it can keep the fuel pump and ASD relays energized via backfeed. Try disconnecting your radio and see if that works.

I saw this a few times on different models where an aftermarket device was installed and a BUS wire was used as a ground or miswired.

Yes, could be. Take the shroud off the column and unplug the Ign switch and see if there are any signs of melting or burning

Thanks for the help, TNech! Your advice led me in the right direction and I saw that the headlights were shorted to the fuel pump. Everything's working as it should now
