Default 1997 T&C wiper ON/OFF issue

I have a T&C minivan. The wiper ON/OFF and intermittent do not work. But if I use the washer the wipers work and the speed of the wipers is what the marking on the wiper ON/OFF arm indicates.

I took apart the multi-function switch and everything looks fine there.

When this problem first started to happen, the wipers sometimes worked and sometimes did not.

Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I know I am not the only one with this issue. Anyone has a suggestion?

Hi, I have read on here that it is the multifuntion switch but I would hazard a guess and say it might be a sticking relay. I would try that first it's cheap to fix if it is a relay and its a good starting place.

Good luck.

Could you do me a favour though, if you find out what it was can you post it on here again.

Thanks
Robert.

Thanks Robert. I checked the relays by swapping them with good ones and the problem is still there.

My mechanic says (guessing) that more than likely the problem is BCM (Body Control Module). First I have to get a new one and then it has to be programmed by the dealer. It is way too expensive and I cannot afford one.

I am going to get a multifunction switch and replace it and see if that solves the problem. It is really easy to replace, only few screws and it comes right out. I wish there was someone I knew who had a similar car and I could just check to see if that is the problem. It will take less than 10 minutes to do that.

I will let you know if I am able to resolve the issue.

Thise multifunction switches were absolute JUNK. I would start there.

I have ordered one. But I took the one on the car apart and it looked fine. The funny thing is that when I change the wiper speed on the multifunction switch and then hit the washer button, the wiper moves according to the speed set on the arm, meaning it will slow down or speed up. In any case in few days the switch will get here and I will know.

I am just hoping it is not the BCM (Body Control Module). That is a lot more expensive.
