Default 2.5 crd manual 2002 rear crank seals without lift \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\/

hello , i am preparing myself to do the rear main crank seal and o rings on this vehicle, I am pretty confident I know what to do,
I would just like to ask someone with previous kknowledge,
Is it possible to do the work without a ramp/pit,?? I have big trolley jacks and stands.

I know in the workshop manual it says to remove front ,cradle/subframe, is this neccesary ??
but I have read on this forum of somebody who acheived , clutch and rear crank seal re[placement, by just resting the box on the subframe .

any advice on attempting this without ramp/pit or gearbox lift, would be greatly appreciated, even if the advice is not to even try,

I am not a mechanic , but am pretty handy with cars, ive had boxes out before clutches etc,

thanks s

You can do it with the subframe in situ but it is fiddly to get it out as the diff catches on it. I think you could just about do it by resting it on the subframe but would be really awkward plus if yours is leaking a fair bit like mine was, I made sure I cleaned all the inside of bell housing and checked the fork for wear. Which will be difficult for the resting method. Depending how high you can jack it up depends how easy it will go. Can lift the gearbox yourself when it's off but it's Quite a heavy unit to lift out at weird angles even with a helper. Good luck though mate and hope it goes well. Keep us updated especially if you can complete it well by resting it.

Just done this with a lift, I didn't need to remove the subframe to get the box out, a bit of tilting and wiggling did the job, I don't think it would be that easy to get access with the box resting on the subframe. It is heavy though, another pair of hands would be good.

Tom.
