Hi
Can you elaborate a bit more. Iwould be really interested to learn what happened when you replace the battery sensor. Did you have starting prroblems before? How many miles has the alternatoe done? I replaced mine at 120k. Just wonder if you have something here that so far is unknown.
regards

I have had the car 2 years and have had the problem of the battery going flat every since I got the car, the battery going flat is an intermittent problem it would do it once or twice then not do it again for weeks.
It has done 67000 miles the first thing that was tried when the battery went flat was a new battery and it was ok for a couple of months then it did it again and again and again.
I have not put on a new alternator but I have had the existing one checked out and rebuilt again it was ok for a while then it would return. The most obvious sign of the battery getting low is when starting the car all the gauges go up to the top and then back down again. I am accused of being a bit obsessive about it!
The volt meter I got from ebay is as follows:-
Car 12V-24 Volt Meter LED Voltmeter Digital VOLTAGE GAUGE Measure diagnose Tool | eBay
It was only £3.99 but my garage checked it and they found it was within 0.1v, so it gives a good idea.
I have not tried the new temperature sensor yet, my garage has ordered one from the main dealers.

A couple of other points that I have found out about the battery problems.
The gel batteries are supposed to be designed for slow drain and slow charging applications and therefore are not really suitable for starting cars?
Another point on the battery it says that it needs 14.5 volts to charge it and when my garage tried to charge it using the standard 12v settings it would not fully charge, it stopped charging at about 80% (they left on charge for 24 hours and tried a discharge/recharge cycle). It was only when it looked into it in greater detail and they found that the charger needed to be set up to charge at 14.5v that they could fully charge the battery. This was on a professional garage battery charger.
I would think that if you are charging that battery at home on a normal battery charger that it would not fully charge the battery. You need to check that your battery charge is able to output the full 14.5v and not just the normal 12v as this will not be good enough to fully charge the battery.

many thanks for the extra info. My redtop was replaced along with the alternator (by the dealer 2 years ago). The repalcement battery was a mercedes one of 45 AH!
So, if i spend 15 mins vacuuming my car put with the interior lights on i get a flat battery and need to jump it. The dealer does not want to know. So I'm about to replace it with the excide excel eb741, mentoned in the earlier threads, my jump leads are wearing out!
I have to say the redtop worked great, until it failed, if you know what I mean.
Just don't understand how a dealer can put a 45 AH battery in a 2,8 diesel, my daughters petrol 1.25 fiesta has a 38 AH battery!
Thanks again for posting the extra info.
