Default 2001 Town & Country 3.8 oil question

Great site!!!!!

I just bought a 2001 T & C LXI w/ 3.8 L V6, for my wife, with 32,000 miles on it..
We previously had a Dodge G. Caravan w/ the 3.3 L V6. (This was 'totaled.' Drunk driver hit the van.)

According to the manual, the 2001 3.8 L takes 4.5 qts of oil, preferably 5w-30.

When I changed the oil and filter today, I put EXACTLY 4.5 qts. back in. After letting the engine run for 5 minnutes, then let it sit for 30 minutes (lunchtime) the dipstick shows that the engine is still about 1/2 to 3/4 qt low.

The 3.3 in the old van took 5 qts. per change.
Why would the 3.8 take less oil?

Any suggestions? Was the 4.5 qts. a typo???

Thanks in advance!!

Keith
