2001 Voyager stuck in first

Also I spoke to the service dept where I purchased my car, which is over 300kms away so I can't take it there, and the guy I spoke to, who was just the desk man, said the p0605 "is a possible problem with the transmision conrtol module" but he didn't know what the p708 was as it was coming up on his computer and all the techs had knocked off for the day. Any ideas what I can check my self? Could it be as simple as something has come loose?

Sorry if I was a little hasty with my response. I must have miss read it slightly as I thought you were just being a dick and trying to show your surperior inteligence. Sorry once again, hard to tell some times how things are ment when you can't see facial expressions or tones in the voice through the key board.
Getting back to the car. It has been into our local transmission specialist since monday. He has run alot of tests and tried a few things and I spoke to him last night and he said every thing appears fine except the tcm. He said he will have to send it the the city (I'm in a country town) where they can either try to repair it or get a new one. He also said that if they get a new one they will have to hook it up to some machine to make the new tcm work in my vehicle, need matchin vin numers or something in the tcm. He also mentioned this is pretty pricey. Does this sound correct or am I getting taken for a ride? Could I just source a second hand tcm and install it myself? I have searched on google and I have read both answers from many places so I'm a little confused as to which way to go.I find it hard to trust some mechanics as I have seen people in the past ripped off badly only to still have the problem.

Also I was just doing some more reading and came across a site that said if you have a faulty TCM you can get the mechanic to "flash the tcm" and that will generally fix them. Has anybody had any experience with this? Is it true? Does it work?

Besides grasping at straws, sure it 'could' work to flash it. What's funny is I rebuild nearly 50 of these transmissions a year. Since 1989 I've done a 1000. I can count on 1 hand how many TCM's I've had to replace. As for 'flashing' All I have ever done when replacing a TCM is to use a used one and program it myself. The only thing that needs to be put in is the tire size. Oh yes, the dealer can 'flash' program the tcm which is reprogramming the computer to alter it's shifting events (logic table). But I've never had a need to have the software updated. I still find it hard to believe the TCM is bad but then I'm not there with my tools and my knowledge fixing it.

Thanks for that. I think they are grasping at straws as they really don't know what is wrong with it. He said he is just testing stuff as he goes so he can tick them off his list. Wants the tcm replacment to be the last option I think. I spoke to him last night again and apperantly there is gear select module or something at the base of the linkage in the bottom of the tranny which he thinks may be the culprit now. Does sound like it could be right?
Any chance you could tell me the things you would check first and things in your experience you would be leaning toward?

That switch is for the range selector. basiclly it tells the computer what gear you have chosen (P, R, N, D, 3, L) If your display is showing what gear you chose, well, then that is not the problem.
How I fix these issues is I verify the problem, I use my scanner to see codes and read data related to the codes. If the transmission hasn't internally failed, just reading codes and data 90% of the time I fix the problem quickly. If not, then I need to dig deeper with hydraulic pressure testing.
I've rebuilt 1000+ of these transmissions. I've probably encountered about every know failure. It isn't some magical mystery that everyone makes the unsuspecting beleive. infact from a mechanical standpoint, it's nothing more than an hydraulically controled gear train that uses electronics to activate the hydraulics.

Well the mechanic is basicaly saying he is stumped by it and is just going through testing one thing after another. He was saying something about when he puts it in drive the scan tool is reading it as being put in 2nd and he thinks it should be saying 1st or something, not sure - I thought if it was inlimp it would be saying it was 2nd because that is what it is in. He reacons also that after clearing the faults and checking again it spat out different codes. He is also in contact with a chrysler tranny "guru" that is guiding him but still to no evail. He also mentioned that if I had to replace the tcm he doesn't think I could get one from the states as they are different from the aussie units some how, different machines or something, this wouldn't be the case would it? I would think if the vehicle was US made then so would the tcm's and no matter where you were located they would all originate from the states (or china then the states). At $80p/h it is starting to scare me though as he has had it since monday morning and I still don't have it back and it is still not fixed.

well, if the transmission was in limp-in, it would show that it's in 2nd gear. So why is it in limp-in. I can't believe in a week, some 'top notch' mechanic and a Chrysler trans guru can't figure this out! But since I don't have the vehicle in front of me nor access to what his scanner is showing, I wouldn't be able to accurately assess the situation and provide and educated guess as to the problem.
These transmissions and computer systems are incredibly easy. Even high school autoshop kids can fix them (I have proof of this statement)

Well I just back from the tranny guy and it is still not fixed. He said that he has basically done all he can and every thing points to the TCM being faulty and I need a new one fitted by Chrysler and a rediculous amount of coin, cheaper to rebuilt the bloody tranny. He said that it kept spitting out the P0700 number but now it is just saying "TCM internal rom fault". He said he has checked all the pins but has no pin out diagram telling exactly which outputs each pin shoul be reading. He said he compared power in to the power out on each pin or something. He also said he had to clean and re earth the range selector, checked a heap of other stuff as well but it all points to the TCM. Any ideas at all as to what I can try? I have looked on e-bay and there is a seller on there selling TCM's and he said you e-mail all your car details and he programs it from his end then sends it out to you and it is just a plug and play kind of thing. Is there any truth in this, can it actually be done like that? or is he dribbling crap?
