Default 2003 3.3 caravan 10 MPG only!

I have a bunch of Caravans, Dodge and Chrysler, but only this one has just a tiny bit of sound when idling, like it is not firing quite right. Changed the spark plugs and wires. Only 10 MPG. Just noticed check engine light came on. It did pass a CA smog test 7 months ago, so it must be a new issue. Have not pulled code. Idled rough just a bit before the engine light came on. Oxygen sensor? Coil? Any thoughts appreciated.

If you've had a bunch of these great vans(like me), then you should already know the nice feature it has to retrieve most basic fault codes by way of doing the ig. "key dance". NO way to tell you what's up without the code(s) the computer is seeing fault with to turn the CEL on.

I have been lucky enough, incredibly to have never had a check engine light on any of them over many years. Don't have a code reader - tell me about the key dance? have not heard that one....

Turn the key from off to the run position(not crank) 3x. On the third time to run , leave it there. Codes will show in the place of the odometer reading. Each code will show for about 5 seconds until the word done appears. If you miss a code you can repeat the process as long as battery power has not been disconnected.

Great system I'll give it a try. Is this good for all years? Mine are 2003 to 2008 Dodge and Chrysler

Try it. I know it works for the earlier years , not sure of the 08(I don't have one). BUT this will work on most all models of what are now FCA vehicles. It won't give all possible codes, but enough to get one out of trouble with most situations.

On the 2008 and up minivans the ignition switch is different, so the key dance is slightly different but similar, the sequence is ACC to ON three times stopping at the ON position.

Yes, that will also work with the older years too.I just like going (posting) from off to the RUN position(not cranking the starter).

Hey! I am impressed with your advice and the result. I pulled three codes:
P1684
P1193
P134

Can you guys tell me what the diagnosis is? This van sounds like its has a 5 cylinder engine today

So to put this to rest, Codes were for front oxygen sensor, intake air temp. sensor. Temp sensor was just unplugged and I changes both oxygen sensors. Pulled the washer cowling and it was easy. My 2003 and 2008 both show codes with the key trick. One code is for "battery disconnected to control module in last 50 starts" Not particularly useful.
