Do you mean the 3.8? If so If I recall its was a 2006 or 7. The 6 speed trans wasn't introduced until 2008. However, they do suffer from similar issuers as the 4 speed.

However most of the problems with these transmission can be usually be traced back to bad maintenance or the mixing or incorrect fluids being used.

There are a number of ATF 4 substitute trans oils out there but they just don't work in Chrysler Jeep transmissions. This is were many problems begin.

As for the 4 speed in my friends 3.8, well when she sold the van it had just over 300,000 miles on it. It was on its original trans and engine however, servicing was meticulous. Engine oil and filters done every 4000 miles and trans fluid and filter every 20,000.

Sorry about that Vonhofinvule,my morphine (Due to cancer) had cut in, i meant what year was your friends 2.8 CRD ?. when I was growing up in Detroit, we never had a diesel engine in our minivans.

No problem, its was the 2006 with the 4 speed. Nice van and it ran great to begin with then suddenly he had just one problem after the next with the diesel engine. Turbo, injectors, camshaft, valves. It just didn't end, finally he sold it for spares to a guy who parted it out on eBay.
