Talking 2008 T & C Sound System

Without warning elements of my sound system have gone on strike. Some screens are still responsive; i.e. I can change clock settings, play iPod music through the system, insert, play and remove music c.d.s. and adjust various speaker balance functions.
Things I can no longer do include accessing f.m. radio stations or previously downloaded and played music c.d.'s.
All fuses seem to be o.k.
Almost seems like parts of the touch screen have gone on vacation. Are these signs that the system is just dying, or is there some simpler explanation?
I'm guessing that if the touch screen does need to be replaced, even if available, it will likely cost more than a new after market system?
Sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Rob
