Default 2012 Town &Country Transmission Question

I have a 2012 town and country with reverse gear not engaging and having a jerky downshift in stop and go traffic. I took it back to the transmission repair shop which rebuilt it in Feb 2023 and they says that it was caused by catalytic converter code P0420 without even figuring out if the code was due to clogged converter or not. They are fixing it this time but are trying to wiggle out of the warranty for future if the catalytic code is not fixed.

So my question is does a clogged catalytic converter have any reason to cause failure of a transmission? I bought this van brand new so I know it has not been mishandled.

Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
